Matte, Dewy or Satin Makeup: The foundation breakdown

Hello Gorgeous!  Today I will post about the different of matte satin and dewy makeup looks. There are so many people around me asking me the question about these two looks. I know it can be difficult to describe the result you’re looking for when getting a professional makeup application.  Even buying makeup can be tough if you don’t know the terminology.  First and foremost, you need to start out with a fresh, clean, smooth canvas (your skin!)  Getting in a regular skincare regimen will make any face makeup look great. The type of finish you will end up with is ultimately based on three factors: your skin type, the foundation you choose, and the application.

So to help you on your quest to find your perfect foundation, I have broken down these different terms so you can get an idea of what they mean, so you can decide which you like best.

Matte Finish :
Perfect, soft, no shine  effects, and this is the most favorite look. You can see a lot of makeup products in market from variant brands promise you to get this matte finish. A matte finish is the longest lasting, so it’s perfect for special events.

Coverage - Matte foundations tend to have medium to full coverage, so if you are prone to breakouts, you’ll have the best results with a matte finish.

Finish it gives - Matte finish is smooth, velvety, refined and even without shiny spots.  Matte foundation leaves skin without any shine and a powder like finish

Avoid if - The powder finish often highlighting fine lines, so may not be suited to more mature skins. Also not great for those who have dry skin as the finish can make dry patches look worse.

Perfect for - Matte finish is wonderful for woman with oily and combination skin types, as it removes shine from the skin.  This is one of the most long lasting finishes so great for special occasions or events when you need your make up to last the test of time.

Dewy Finish
This look is about fresh, luminous and glow skin that looks healthy and youthful. I think Dewy look become more popular inspired by Korean actress. Their healthy and glowing skin become a trend. Dewy look is wonderful for woman with dry to normal skin types. Dewy look is identical with natural and healthy look. Tinted moisturizer, BB cream, or light water based foundation and other sheer makeup are the right choice for you to get this look.

Finish it gives - The skin is left with a shimmery glowing finish. Skin looks intensely moisturized and radiant . But don't worry, for you with oily or combination skin type, you can still get this look. Certainly with the right makeup techniques.

Avoid if - Avoid to use the medium to full coverage foundation.  Do not put too much highlighter to your face, just apply it at your cheekbones for fresh effect. If you put too much, your face will ends up like a disco ball LOL.   There is a fine line between dewy and oily or grassy. You must know the right amount to get this glow, fresh and healthy glow. For example : And be careful to choose your makeup products, avoid the shimmer products to your face (especially for you with oily and big pores problems) cause it can make your pores looks more biggerrr.

Perfect for - People with normal to dry skin as gives skin an added glow. Also great for adding radiance to more mature skin types.

Satin Finish
Not dewy, yet not matte.  A natural finish with a soft sheen.  A satin finish looks good on Everyone!  This look is easily adaptable to all skin types and flatters almost anyone! A satin finish will have more longevity than a dewy look since using powder will set the foundation and keep it in place. Again, oily skin types may want to add a little more powder around the t-zone to prevent shine. Who may not love this look? Those who don’t like wearing much make-up.

Finish it gives - Also know as velvet finish, sheen finish, Cashmere finish.
The most flattering foundation formula. This type of texture is semi- matte giving a natural smooth finish. Making skin look natural with an ever so slight glow. Not as shiny as Luminous or as flat as Matte. .  A satin finish looks good on Everyone!

Perfect for - This sort of foundation finish suits most skin types. Set with translucent powder to make the foundation last. Those of us with slightly oily or combination skin apply more powder over T- zone to reduce any shine.

Here is my own techniques and recommend product for this look.

*Matte finish look
Techniques :
1. Apply thin/.tiny layer of moisturizer
2. Apply makeup base primer (This step is important because it can make our face like a smooth canvas that ready for next makeup step. for Oily use Skin mattifying Primer)
3. Apply your favorite foundation with sponge (to more coverage and flawless result) or flat top brush (For air-brushed effect). Don't forget to apply it to your neck for natural effect (not like using mask)
4. Take your translucent loose powder after it with sponge or kabuki brush, put your favorite blush on and  compact powder (with kabuki brush, do not use sponge cause it make your makeup look heavy) to more flawless effect

4. You can apply a little highlighter to your cheekbones.
5. Using cream blush can create the natural dewy finish.
6. No need to apply powder, or you can put some to your T-zone area.
7. You can using setting spray with dewy finish to complete this look.
